Name the one thing
Ask what actually matters in the next hour, not the next month. One sentence, out loud or written down.
Phase two
Once the body is settled, attention becomes yours again. The refocus phase is about narrowing from everything to one thing, and giving that one thing a clean, unhurried start.
Stress fragments attention: the brain keeps scanning for threat and every open loop feels equally urgent. Naming a single next action closes that scan. Working from one deliberate priority — instead of reacting to whichever thing shouted loudest — is what turns a calm body into useful, focused work.
Ask what actually matters in the next hour, not the next month. One sentence, out loud or written down.
If the task feels heavy, define a two-minute version. Motivation follows movement, not the other way round.
Write down every nagging item so your mind stops rehearsing them. The page holds them better than you do.
No notifications, no tabs, no email. The start of a focus block decides the quality of the whole block.
